This topic measures what big crypto coins did in the past, one coin at a time: how much a coin moved on a normal day, how often it fell 10% in a week, and how long its worst drops took to recover. Binance and Coinbase numbers are never mixed.
What the numbers show
- A normal Bitcoin day is smaller than many people think. A typical day moved 1.38% on Binance's BTCUSDT perp (a perp is a futures contract that never expires), from September 2019 to October 19, 2026. But 9.24% of those days moved more than 5%.
- Some big coins move about twice as much as Bitcoin. On Binance through October 19, 2026, SOL (2.91%), AVAX (2.88%) and LINK (2.79%) had the biggest typical days. TRX (1.28%) and Bitcoin (1.38%) had the smallest.
- Ethereum usually fell more in Bitcoin's crashes. On the 103 Binance days when Bitcoin fell 5% or more, Ethereum fell more on 70.87% of them. On Bitcoin's big up days, it rose more only 38.17% of the time.
- Coins mostly move together, but not the same amount each year. BTC and ETH daily moves had a 0.82 correlation (1 would mean they always move together) on Binance from late 2019 to October 2026. By year it ranged from 0.77 in 2021 to 0.91 in 2026.
- A small sample can look like a rule. Coinbase Bitcoin was up in 9 of 11 Octobers from 2015 to 2025. With 12 months to pick from, a best month that strong would show up by chance about 64% of the time.
These are past cases, not a forecast.
