# How to download Hyperliquid historical data and check it

Get Hyperliquid candles, funding and liquidation data as whole-day files, check them with a hash, and spot gaps first. Real coverage numbers.

To download Hyperliquid history, ask for one coin over a time window for small jobs, or list whole-day archive files and get signed download links for many days. Then check each file's sha256 hash against the catalog. In our check, Bitcoin funding in Comparand's archive had all 13,152 hourly records from April 1, 2025 to September 30, 2026, with none missing.

This guide shows both routes, the steps to download and verify files, and the gaps we found, because some months and minutes are missing. These are past records, not a forecast.

## What kinds of Hyperliquid history can you get?

Hyperliquid is an exchange for perps. A **perp** is a futures contract that never expires. The archive holds several kinds of data:

- **Bars:** price records with the open, high, low and close over one minute or five minutes. A **bar** is that record over a set time.
- **Funding:** a small payment traders on one side of a perp pay the other side. It is recorded each hour.
- **Open interest changes:** the total size of trades still open, tracked as how much was opened or closed each bar.
- **Liquidations and cascades:** a **liquidation** is when an exchange closes a trade because the trader's money ran out. A **cascade** is many liquidations in a short time.
- **Labels:** per-minute labels for each coin.

The Comparand archive covers Hyperliquid only for this data. It does not include order-book depth or trade-by-trade data.

## Which route should you pick?

There are three ways to get history. They suit different jobs.

| Route | Good for | Cost |
| --- | --- | --- |
| The exchange's own public API | Data straight from the source. Check its docs for how much history one request returns. | Set by Hyperliquid |
| Comparand data tools (hl_bars, hl_funding, hl_oi) | A time window for one coin | Unlimited on a plan under fair use. $0.005 per call on pay as you go |
| Whole-day archive files | Many days, or many coins, in one go | Catalog is free. Plans include 40, 200 or 800 GB of links a month. Pay as you go: $0.15 per GB |

A small window is easy to ask for. A year of minute bars for many coins is easier as files. Each link can cover 1 to 100 days.

## Step 1: What does the archive hold?

Start with the coverage tool (hl_coverage). It takes no arguments and is free. It lists the archive days, the coin list, and which days are complete.

Then, for the coin you care about, use the coverage calendar (hl_coverage_calendar). It is free. It shows which days hold 1-minute bars, 5-minute bars, funding and labels for that coin, with a status and where the data came from.

This step matters, because not every day or kind of data is complete. Here is what we measured:

| What we checked | Result |
| --- | --- |
| Bitcoin hourly funding records, Apr 1, 2025 to Sep 30, 2026 | 13,152 of 13,152 hours (100%) |
| Coins in that funding check | 24, each with 13,152 hours |
| Funding records across those coins | 315,648 |
| Liquidation flags, April and May 2025 | Missing or partial |
| Earliest cascade event we could use | June 2, 2025 |
| Cascade events dropped because a day they touched had a missing minute of price data | 9,202 (30,828 passed every check) |

The funding check used 24 coins picked because they had the most recorded hours, so it does not prove every coin is complete. Coins that listed later start later. Funding for these coins was complete, but minute price data had real gaps, as the cascade row shows.

## Step 2: How do you list the files?

Use the file catalog (hl_bulk_files). It is free. For every complete day, it lists these files:

- bars1m: 1-minute bars
- bars5m: 5-minute bars
- labels: per-minute labels
- cascade_after: what followed liquidation cascades
- funding: one file per coin

Each entry shows the size in bytes and a sha256 hash. A **hash** is a fingerprint of a file. If even one byte changes, the fingerprint changes.

The catalog returns 100 days per page. You can narrow it by table and by start and end day, and page on with a cursor.

## Step 3: How do you get a download link?

Ask for a signed link (hl_bulk_link) with a table and 1 to 100 days. For funding, give the coin instead. Each link works for 24 hours and for 5 downloads.

Plans include link allowances of 40, 200 and 800 GB per account per month for Starter, Pro and Desk. Without a plan, links cost $0.15 per GB from your credits. The charge is counted per MB, with a minimum of $0.02.

If a link runs out, ask for a new one. The catalog tells you the byte size first, so you can plan before you pull.

## Step 4: How do you check the file?

After downloading, compute the sha256 hash on your own computer and compare it with the catalog entry. On a Mac, run `shasum -a 256 yourfile`. On Linux, run `sha256sum yourfile`.

- If the hash matches, the file is the one the catalog describes.
- If it does not match, the download was damaged or cut short. Download it again.

Also compare the file size in bytes. A short file with a wrong size is a quick sign something failed. Our guide to [checking crypto data provenance](https://comparand.xyz/blog/check-crypto-data-provenance) shows other checks.

## Step 5: What should you check before using the data?

Here are the lessons from the gaps we found.

1. **Check the calendar for your coin and dates.** A day missing from the calendar is not zero. It is unknown.
2. **Do not fill missing hours.** In our funding check, we left missing hours out. We did not fill them or treat them as zero.
3. **Watch the timestamps.** Of 315,648 funding records, 48 were stamped at least one minute after the hour. Each of the 24 coins had two of them in July 2025, about 1 minute 51 seconds and 14 minutes 48 seconds late. Group by the real timestamp, not the hour you expected.
4. **Check the units.** In the records we studied, rates were stored as basis points per eight hours. We divided by eight to get an hourly rate. A **basis point** is one hundredth of one percent.
5. **Skip the early liquidation days.** With April and May 2025 flagged as missing or partial, a study of cascades should start on June 2, 2025.

Our post on [Hyperliquid funding rate history](https://comparand.xyz/blog/hyperliquid-funding-rates-data) shows what we found in those funding records. Our study of [what happened after liquidation cascades](https://comparand.xyz/blog/after-crypto-liquidation-cascades) shows how the early gap shaped the sample.

## How we measured this

We counted funding records for Hyperliquid perps from April 1, 2025 to October 1, 2026 (the end is not included). We grouped them by the UTC hour containing the real timestamp, and never filled missing hours. We picked the 20 coins with the most recorded hours (ties broken by name) and added Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and HYPE, which gave 24 coins. For liquidations, we checked the archive's liquidation flags by month and rejected any window that touched the missing or partial months.

Limits: coverage can change, so use the calendar for current facts. A complete record means each hour has a value, not that the exchange's own feed was perfect.

## Try this in Comparand

With Comparand connected to your AI app, you can ask:

- "What does the Hyperliquid archive cover?" The coverage tool (hl_coverage) lists the archive days, the coin list and which days are complete. It is free.
- "Which days have 1-minute bars, funding and labels for BTC from April to June 2025?" The coverage calendar (hl_coverage_calendar) answers per day, with a status and provenance. Free.
- "List the 1-minute bar files for May 2025 with their sizes and hashes." The catalog (hl_bulk_files) returns each day's file with its bytes and sha256. Free.
- "Give me download links for those 31 days." The link tool (hl_bulk_link) returns signed links that last 24 hours and allow 5 downloads each. It counts against your plan's GB allowance, or costs $0.15 per GB on pay as you go.

Every answer carries a prov block with the days, digests and code revisions behind it. You can [try 3 coins free](https://comparand.xyz/try), read the [docs](https://comparand.xyz/docs) or see [pricing](https://comparand.xyz/pricing).

## The short version

- Bitcoin funding in the archive has 13,152 hourly records from April 1, 2025 to September 30, 2026, with no gaps.
- Use the coverage tools first, then the file catalog, then signed links. Each link lasts 24 hours and 5 downloads.
- Compare the sha256 hash and size of every file with the catalog.
- Liquidation flags for April and May 2025 are missing or partial. Do not treat a missing day as zero.
- Plans include 40, 200 or 800 GB of links a month. Without a plan, it is $0.15 per GB.

## Questions people ask

**How do I download Hyperliquid historical data?**

For a short window, ask for bars or funding for one coin. For many days, list the whole-day files in the archive catalog, then ask for signed download links. Each link works for 24 hours and 5 downloads.

**How far back does Hyperliquid historical data go?**

Comparand's Hyperliquid archive starts in April 2025. In our check, Bitcoin funding had 13,152 hourly records from April 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026, with none missing. Use the coverage calendar to see the first day for any other coin. Hyperliquid's own API is a separate source with its own limits.

**How do I know a downloaded file is complete and not damaged?**

The file catalog lists each file's size in bytes and its sha256 hash. After you download, compute the hash yourself and compare. If the two do not match, download again.

**Is the Hyperliquid liquidation history complete?**

Not for every period. In the archive we measured, liquidation flags for April and May 2025 are missing or partial, so the earliest cascade we could use was June 2, 2025. Check the coverage calendar before you use early days.

**How much does it cost to download Hyperliquid data in bulk?**

The file catalog and the coverage tools are free. The plans include 40, 200 or 800 GB of download links a month (Starter, Pro, Desk). Without a plan, links cost $0.15 per GB from your credits.
