# Glassnode vs CryptoQuant: on-chain data compared

Glassnode and CryptoQuant compared by published metrics, history, plans and API limits, plus how on-chain data differs from exchange price history.

Glassnode and CryptoQuant both sell on-chain data: facts read from blockchains, such as coins moving between wallets and exchanges. Glassnode publishes plan prices of $49 and from $584 a month (billed annually, before VAT), claims 1,500+ assets and offers point-in-time metrics. CryptoQuant claims 200+ on-chain metrics across 490+ assets and lists API limits for four levels, from a free Basic level (daily data, 30 days) to full history. A plan page cannot tell you whether a metric will help your research.

Comparand is a different kind of tool. It covers exchange price history, derivatives data and past-chart search. It has no on-chain metrics. This guide compares what the two vendors publish, then shows where price data fits next to them.

## What is on-chain data, and how is it different from price history?

A blockchain is a shared record of who sent what to whom. **On-chain data** is counted from that record. Examples are how many coins moved, how many coins sit on exchanges, or how many wallets were active.

**Price history** comes from an exchange. It is stored as bars. A bar records the open, high, low and close price over a set time. Two exchanges can show different prices for the same coin at the same time.

The two kinds answer different questions. On-chain data asks what holders did. Price history asks what the market price did. Many researchers use both, side by side. Both vendors below also sell market data, not just on-chain data.

## How do Glassnode and CryptoQuant compare?

All figures are as the companies publish them. We did not test the data.

| | Glassnode | CryptoQuant |
| --- | --- | --- |
| What it offers | On-chain and market metrics in Studio; Professional adds spot, futures, options and other research datasets | On-chain metrics, exchange flows and reserves, and spot and derivatives market data, with charts and API |
| Assets and metrics | Claims 1,500+ assets; which metrics exist varies by asset | Claims 200+ on-chain metrics across 490+ assets; not every metric exists for every asset |
| Published price | Advanced $49/month and Professional from $584/month, billed annually, before VAT | Basic is free; we do not quote its paid prices because we could not confirm them |
| History and detail | Advanced 4 years in Studio; Professional up to 15+ years and 10-minute detail | Set by API level (see below) |
| API | Conflicting pages (see below) | Four API levels listed |

## What does CryptoQuant publish about its API?

CryptoQuant's site lists four API levels. The limit changes both how far back you can go and how fine the data is.

| API level | Data detail | History |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Basic (free) | Daily | 30 days |
| Advanced | Hourly | 1 year |
| Professional | Minute | 1 year |
| Premium | Not stated | Full available history |

These are API limits, not promises about every chart on the site. Do not assume the API gives what a chart shows. CryptoQuant's market data includes exchange-specific and aggregated prices, trades, funding, open interest and liquidations, down to minute detail. For other derivatives-data tools, see [Coinalyze, Velo and Laevitas compared](https://comparand.xyz/blog/coinalyze-velo-laevitas-compared).

## What does Glassnode publish, and where do its pages disagree?

Glassnode's Studio offers on-chain and market metrics. Its pricing page says Advanced shows 4 years of history. Professional shows up to 15+ years, down to 10-minute detail.

Two points are unclear. The pricing table says Advanced detail is daily, while a support FAQ says up to hourly. The table also lists "Advanced API Light", while the FAQ says there is no Advanced API. It describes the Professional API as an add-on. Because the pages disagree, confirm the exact detail and API access with Glassnode before you buy.

A free level appears in the support FAQ but not in the current plan table, so we cannot say what the free limits are today.

## Why do revised on-chain numbers matter for backtests?

Glassnode points out something worth knowing. Ordinary on-chain metrics can change after the fact. It says its "point-in-time" metrics address revisions to on-chain historical data.

This matters because a backtest should only use what was known at the time. If a metric was later corrected, your test may use numbers nobody had that day. That is the same kind of mistake as in our [look-ahead bias example](https://comparand.xyz/blog/look-ahead-bias-backtest-example), where one timing bug turned a losing rule into a fake winner. Ask any data vendor, CryptoQuant included, whether its history is revised, and how.

## Which one fits which job?

- **You want to start free:** CryptoQuant lists a free Basic API level with daily data for 30 days. Glassnode's free level is unclear today.
- **You want a published paid price before you talk to sales:** Glassnode lists $49 for Advanced. CryptoQuant's paid prices are not quoted here.
- **You need minute-level API data:** CryptoQuant lists minute detail on its Professional API level. Glassnode lists 10-minute detail on Professional in Studio.
- **You want a very wide asset list:** Glassnode claims 1,500+ assets. CryptoQuant claims 490+ assets for its on-chain metrics.
- **You need point-in-time history:** Glassnode documents point-in-time metrics. Ask CryptoQuant how it handles revisions.

None of these points says which vendor's numbers are more accurate. We did not test that.

## Where does Comparand fit?

Comparand finds past charts that look like today's and shows what price did next. A search compares a coin only with its own past on the same exchange, and it shows past cases, not a forecast. It has no on-chain metrics and no wallet-flow charts.

Use it for the price side of your research. The exchange bar tools are free on any key. Comparand also has realized volatility and correlation for Hyperliquid coins. A common setup is to download an on-chain series from one of the vendors above, then line it up with exchange bars. You do the joining yourself. See [Bitcoin after big one-hour drops](https://comparand.xyz/blog/bitcoin-after-big-one-hour-drops) for an example of what a price-only study looks like, and our [crypto market data API comparison](https://comparand.xyz/blog/crypto-market-data-apis-compared) for price-data sources.

## What do these pages not tell you?

They do not show data quality, gaps or revisions in practice. They do not give CryptoQuant's current paid prices or Glassnode's final API cost. We did not run any metric against a price move, so we make no claim that on-chain data predicts price.

## How we measured this

We read each company's official pricing, product and documentation pages and linked the main sources. We wrote down published prices, asset counts, history and detail by plan. We did not download metrics or test the APIs. Where pages disagreed, we say so. Where we could not confirm a price, we left it out.

## Try this in Comparand

Ask your connected AI agent:

- "Show completed daily bars for this symbol on this exchange between two dates." venue_bars returns open, high, low, close and volume, completed bars only, in sizes from 1 minute to 1 day. It is free on every key.
- "Show realized volatility, the volatility regime and the correlation matrix for BTC, ETH and SOL on this day." hl_stats covers up to 20 Hyperliquid coins on one day. Plans include it under fair-use limits. On pay as you go it costs $0.01 per call.

Neither tool returns on-chain metrics. You can [try 3 coins free](https://comparand.xyz/try) and read the [docs](https://comparand.xyz/docs) to connect an agent.

## The short version

- Glassnode and CryptoQuant both sell on-chain data. Glassnode lists $49 and from $584 a month; CryptoQuant lists a free Basic API level, and we do not quote its paid prices.
- CryptoQuant's API goes from daily data for 30 days to the full available history.
- Glassnode's pages disagree on Advanced detail and API access, so confirm before buying.
- Ordinary on-chain metrics can be revised, which matters for fair backtests.
- Comparand covers exchange price bars and past-chart search, not on-chain data.

## Questions people ask

**What is the difference between Glassnode and CryptoQuant?**

Both sell on-chain data, which is data read from blockchains. Glassnode publishes plan prices and says it covers 1,500+ assets. CryptoQuant claims 200+ on-chain metrics for 490+ assets and lists its API limits by plan. Neither page tells you which has better data.

**How much does Glassnode cost?**

Glassnode's pricing page lists Advanced at $49 a month billed annually and Professional from $584 a month billed annually, both before VAT. Extra data or API add-ons may change the total.

**Does CryptoQuant have an API?**

Yes. CryptoQuant lists four API levels. Basic is free and gives daily data for 30 days. Advanced gives hourly data for 1 year. Professional gives minute data for 1 year. Premium gives the full available history.

**Is on-chain data the same as price data?**

No. On-chain data comes from blockchain records, such as coins moving between wallets. Price data comes from exchanges, as bars of open, high, low and close prices. Comparand covers exchange price history and past-chart search, not on-chain metrics.
