# Comparand vs TrendSpider: two ways to find past look-alikes

TrendSpider's Analog Path Projection draws one consensus path from past look-alikes. Comparand lists each same-coin past case by API or AI app.

Choose TrendSpider if you want a full charting app with scanners, alerts, no-code strategy tests and trading bots, plus an add-on that builds a consensus path from similar past stretches. Choose Comparand if you want a list of the closest past charts for one coin on one exchange, each with its own path and what followed, from an API or an AI app, with no average. They overlap in one place: both look for look-alikes in a coin's own history. The answer differs: TrendSpider's add-on sums the cases into one cone and median path, and Comparand shows each case on its own.

These are past cases, not a forecast, in both tools.

## Which tool fits which job?

| Job | TrendSpider | Comparand |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Chart analysis, scanners and alerts | Yes, core features | No |
| No-code strategy testing | Yes | No |
| Trading bots | Yes | No. Comparand places no orders. |
| Search a coin's own history for look-alike charts | Yes, through the Analog Path Projection add-on in its store | Yes, core feature (shape_analogs) |
| What a look-alike search returns | Marked locations of similar episodes, a consensus cone and a median path (per its store listing) | Each past case with its own path and later moves. No average. |
| Use it from an AI app (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor) | Not part of this review | Yes, through MCP |
| Free way to start | Paid 14-day trials | Try 3 coins free |

Each row comes from the vendors' own pages. The table shows what each tool is built for. It does not rank their results.

## What does TrendSpider do better?

TrendSpider's [pricing page](https://trendspider.com/pricing/) describes automated chart analysis, scanners, no-code strategy testing, alerts and trading bots. That is a working environment for trading charts. Comparand has none of these. It is research only and does not place orders.

TrendSpider also claims wide data. Its [documentation](https://help.trendspider.com/kb/data-feeds/market-data-sources) says 61,000+ assets, including 28,000 crypto pairs on more than 10 crypto exchanges. Its [symbol lookup guide](https://help.trendspider.com/kb/charting/symbol-search-and-lookup) says symbols are separated by exchange, with Binance and Coinbase among its examples. Comparand's chart search is far narrower: up to 10 big coins on Binance, Bybit, OKX and Coinbase, plus about 210 Hyperliquid perps. A perp is a futures contract that never expires.

If you want to see a result drawn on your own chart next to your scanners and alerts, TrendSpider is built for that. Comparand returns data and is not a charting app.

## What is Analog Path Projection?

It is an indicator in TrendSpider's [trading tools store](https://trendspider.com/trading-tools-store/indicators/6a8bda-analog-path-projection/). Per the listing, it searches a symbol's own history for similar price episodes, marks their locations and builds a consensus cone and median path.

That is a summary. The cone and median line put many past cases into one picture, which is quick to read. The cost is that you see less of the cases that disagree.

We could not read a price or trial terms on the listing, and we could not tell whether a base plan includes it. Check the store page before you pay.

TrendSpider's symbol lookup separates exchanges. Before you rely on any search, check that your exact market (exchange, coin, spot or perp) and bar size are available.

*Diagram: Show one query chart on top, then the same five past cases read two ways: as a single consensus cone with a median line, and drawn separately, some rising and some falling.*
## What does Comparand's search return?

A Comparand search turns the last completed bars of one market into a shape. It then returns the closest past windows of the same coin, on the same exchange and timeframe. Each one is a separate episode and none overlaps the query. Read more in [how the search works](https://comparand.xyz/methods).

Each case shows its own price path and its own later moves, at a quarter, a half and the full window length, in basis points. A basis point is one hundredth of one percent, so 100 basis points equal 1%.

There is no average or hit rate. That is a design choice. When cases disagree, the disagreement is part of the answer, and an average can hide it. We explain this in [when past crypto cases disagree](https://comparand.xyz/blog/when-past-crypto-cases-disagree).

A consensus path can still be useful. It is faster to read, and it fits a chart. Which one you prefer depends on whether you want a summary or the raw cases.

Neither view turns look-alikes into a forecast. In our own test with Comparand's matching, the middle result of the 10 closest past charts called the next day's direction no better than always guessing up. We did not test TrendSpider's add-on this way. See [do chart look-alikes predict crypto](https://comparand.xyz/blog/do-chart-lookalikes-predict-crypto).

## What do they cost, and what are the limits?

TrendSpider's pricing page showed the following in USD per month. The page mixes introductory offers with later prices, so check the price at checkout.

| TrendSpider plan | Offer price shown | Later price range | Paid 14-day trial |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Standard | $52.38 | $59 to $89 | $19 |
| Premium | $65.52 | $99 to $149 | $29 |
| Enhanced | $87.84 | $133 to $199 | $39 |
| Advanced | $154.08 | $233 to $349 | $49 |

Two published limits matter for testing. On Standard, the smallest backtest interval is 2h, so it does not cover 1-hour backtests. Its Group Strategy Tester runs separate backtests per symbol and does not simulate one pool of capital across them, per its [own guide](https://trendspider.com/blog/group-strategy-tester/). These limits are about backtests, not about the look-alike add-on.

Comparand charges $0.01 per chart search, paid from credits. Starter is $19 a month with $30 of credits, Pro is $79 with $160, and Desk is $249 with $650. You can also pay as you go from $5. See [pricing](https://comparand.xyz/pricing).

Comparand has its own limits. Its coverage is the coins and exchanges listed above. History starts at different dates: for BTC, Coinbase from January 2017 and Binance from September 2019 for 1-hour, 4-hour and daily bars, and Hyperliquid from April 2025. It does not draw charts, run backtests or place orders.

The two do not sell the same thing. TrendSpider is a whole app, while Comparand is a research search.

## How can you use both?

Keep the market the same in both. A Binance Bitcoin perp is a different market from Coinbase Bitcoin spot.

1. In TrendSpider, find a chart you want to study. Note the exchange, symbol, bar size and the time of the last completed bar.
2. In Comparand, run the search on that same market, bar size and end time.
3. Look at each past case: how many rose, how many fell, and how far the paths ran from each other.
4. Compare that with the consensus path, if you use the add-on, and note where they differ.

## How we measured this

This is a comparison of documented features and prices. We read TrendSpider's pricing page, its two help pages, its Group Strategy Tester guide and the store listing for Analog Path Projection, and we recorded only what they say. We did not run the add-on or compare its results with Comparand's. We did not test speed, accuracy or trading results. TrendSpider's prices and offers change, and a store listing may carry terms we could not see.

## Try this in Comparand

Ask your connected AI agent: "Find the 5 closest past charts for Binance ETHUSDT using the last 96 completed 4-hour bars. Show each case's path and its moves after 24, 48 and 96 bars."

The shape_analogs search lets you choose:

- **timeframe**: 5m, 15m, 1h (the default), 4h or 1d.
- **window**: how many bars make the shape, 20 to 200. The default is 48.
- **k**: how many matches, 1 to 20. The default is 10.
- **end_utc**: the time the chart ends. The default is now.

It returns the matches from that coin's own past on that exchange, one per episode, each with its path and its later moves in basis points. There is no average. A search costs $0.01 from credits.

For Hyperliquid coins, ask: "For BTC on Hyperliquid at my chosen time, show the 20 nearest past moments and what price did over the next 4 hours."

- **hl_analogs** compares one coin's state with its own past, including buying, selling, open interest and liquidations. It is Hyperliquid only.
- You can set the outcome window to 1 hour or 4 hours. The default is 20 matches. It costs about $0.01 per search.

See the [docs](https://comparand.xyz/docs) to connect your agent, or [try 3 coins free](https://comparand.xyz/try). These are past cases, not a forecast.

## The short version

- TrendSpider is a charting, scanning and bot app. Comparand is a research search for past look-alikes.
- TrendSpider's Analog Path Projection add-on builds a consensus cone and median path from a symbol's own history.
- Comparand returns each past case from the same coin and exchange, with no average, by API or AI app.
- TrendSpider does far more around the chart. Comparand covers fewer coins and does not trade.
- Neither shows what will happen. Their past cases are not a forecast.

## Questions people ask

**Is Comparand an alternative to TrendSpider?**

For one job only. TrendSpider is a charting app with scanners, alerts, no-code strategy tests and trading bots. Comparand is a research search that finds past charts of the same coin on the same exchange and shows what price did next. Many traders could use both.

**Does TrendSpider have a look-alike chart search?**

Yes, as a marketplace add-on. TrendSpider's store lists Analog Path Projection, which searches a symbol's own history for similar price episodes, marks where they happened and builds a consensus cone and median path. Check the store listing for its price and whether your plan includes it.

**What does Comparand return that a consensus path does not?**

Each past case on its own: its price path and its later moves, with no average or hit rate. You can see which cases rose and which fell. A consensus summarises the cases in one path, which is shorter to read but can hide disagreement between them.

**Which costs less, TrendSpider or Comparand?**

They sell different things. TrendSpider's pricing page showed offer prices from $52.38 to $154.08 a month for a full charting app. Comparand charges $0.01 per chart search from credits, and Starter is $19 a month with $30 of credits. Compare what you need, not only the price.
